Production Manager 

Pittsburgh, PA

ChemDAQ, Inc., a rapidly-growing manufacturing company based in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking a Production Manager to lead final product assembly and testing, inventory management, and shipping/receiving, as well as oversee the company’s Sensor Exchange Program (SXP). This is a critical role for the company as it will involve engagement across all Departments during a period of significant organizational growth.

About the SXP Program

ChemDAQ manufactures and sells gas monitoring and control systems for hard-to-detect chemicals within the healthcare and industrial industries. All of our gas monitoring systems come equipped with an annual subscription to the Sensor Exchange Program (SXP). Under this program, we routinely ship pre-calibrated sensors to all of our customers at regularly scheduled intervals to ensure every ChemDAQ gas monitor in the market is calibrated properly and provides accurate and reliable readings to keep workers safe.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Plan, coordinate and control manufacturing processes to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality products to customers.

  • Routinely work with other departments to actively manage inventory and process part orders to ensure continuity of product assembly and timely fulfillment of existing and backlogged orders; will involve selection/development of new systems and processes for more efficiently and effectively managing inventory in real time.

  • Manage ChemDAQ’s SXP operations, with a focus on the timely calibration and delivery of sensors.

  • Work with members of the management team to implement best practices for product quality and process documentation.

  • Evaluate current manufacturing processes and propose optimizations, as needed.

  • Directly supervise and manage members of the Production Department, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.

  • Work closely alongside the Contracts and Sales teams as they process new orders, contact customers for annual SXP renewals, and answer customer questions related to upcoming shipments.

  • Work closely with the Engineering and R&D departments to troubleshoot any production errors or issues related to sensor calibration and repair.

  • Work with the Technical Services team to identify and address product issues in the field and process Return Material Authorizations (RMAs).

  • Propose and implement new technologies or softwares that will enhance manufacturing operations, including but not limited to, customer shipment notifications, production tracking, ERP systems, and/or cloud-based data storage.

  • Complete regular production forecasts and submit monthly and annual budget requests.

  • Develop and report on key metrics to company leadership.

Knowledge & Skills Required

The successful candidate must have the ability to manage both day-to-day production operations and long-term plans for expansion. In addition, the successful candidate must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, engineering, business administration, or a related field

  • Five or more years experience in electronic product production and three years in a management role

  • Familiarity with ISO 9000 or other quality systems

  • Demonstrated experience working on cross-functional teams and within/across multiple departments

  • Strong computer skills, including ability to manage data across multiple platforms

  • Comfortable working independently and in a team environment

  • Working knowledge of Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Access (preferred)

  • Customer service and/or tech support experience (preferred)

  • Knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software (preferred)
