Oxygen Sensor

Ethylene Oxide (EtO) is widely used throughout the medical device manufacturing industry as a primary sterilant method. While effective, it can pose major fire and explosion risks. One of the ways to reduce this risk is to dilute EtO with nitrogen or carbon dioxide to keep oxygen concentrations very low. ChemDAQ's oxygen sensor allows facilities to monitor their oxygen levels to ensure levels remain within a safe range.

Product Overview

One of the greatest risks with EtO is that it is a combustible gas and can form explosive mixtures in the air at concentrations at or above 3% by volume. Often, nitrogen is used to dilute the EtO. However, this in turn presents a risk of asphyxiation if there is a major nitrogen leak due to the fact that nitrogen can displace oxygen in the air, especially in a classified area. To keep employees safe, employers can install oxygen sensors.

Intrinsically Safe

ChemDAQ's oxygen sensor is intrinsically safe and can be used in areas classified as hazardous. Here, the sensor is connected via a barrier box to either the ChemDAQ Steri-Trac 2/2+ monitor or to a ChemDAQ Sensor Communication Interface (SCI).

Alarm Logic

The alarm logic for ChemDAQ's oxygen sensor is different than other sensors. Typically, most gas sensors have a normal range with accompanying low and high alarms for increasing gas concentrations. The Oxygen sensor has a normal range from 19.5% to 22% by volume, corresponding to the normal concentration of oxygen in ambient air of 20.9% by volume, with a low alarm below 19.5% and a high alarm above 22%.

Sensor Exchange Program (SXP®)

Accuracy and dependability is also the driving force behind ChemDAQ’s Sensor Exchange Program (SXP®), a leading service-based program to routinely ship factory pre-calibrated sensors at regularly scheduled intervals throughout the year to all ChemDAQ monitor users, to ensure accuracy and reliability of monitoring data.

Monitoring Systems

The Oxygen sensor can be connected to some of ChemDAQ's most advanced monitoring systems.

Sensor Communication Interface (SCI™)

The SCI is a multi-configurable monitoring solution to accurately and reliably detect vapors throughout your facility and communicate readings to a compatible data system for enhanced connectivity.

Steri-Trac® Series

As ChemDAQ’s premier fixed area monitoring system, the Steri-Trac series of products are designed to continuously measure and alert you to hazardous vapor levels in the air.
