Many facilities, including Hospitals, Medical Device Manufacturers, Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, Veterinary Clinics and others use high concentrations of toxic gases and reactive agents such as Ethylene Oxide, Hydrogen Peroxide or Ozone to sterilize single-use and reusable instruments. While this process effectively kills a wide range of micro-organisms that could present health risks to a patient, these same toxic sterilants can also pose a serious health risk to personnel working in and around the process.
To ensure a safe work environment, government agencies regulate these toxic sterilants and have imposed permissible exposure limits such that employers have a legal duty to ensure that these exposure limits are not exceeded.
Even with well designed equipment, ventilation systems and well established work practices, accidental leaks of toxic sterilant gas can and do happen. ChemDAQ’s Steri-Trac® gas monitoring system provides facilities a means to monitor ambient air in the workplace and help ensure a safe, best-in-class work environment while also meeting all of the OSHA regulations for managing employee exposures.
ChemDAQ has solved the long-standing problem of cross sensitivity in Ethylene Oxide gas sensors. In environments where low levels of common background interferents such as alcohols and carbon monoxide can cause false alarms, ChemDAQ’s patented Spot-On® Chemical Filter can eliminate false alarms in most cases.

ChemDAQ developed the
Spot-On chemical filter with this problem in mind
to filter out these common interferents.
The graph below illustrates the
responses to common interferents such as
carbon monoxide and ethanol.
